A former nightclub in Nottingham that closed suddenly in February is reopening after being revamped and rebranded.

The Lower Parliament Street venue, most recently known as Pryzm, will open its doors again on Friday as an event space called The Palais.

The venue closed after previous owners Rekom UK collapsed into administration.

Company DHP Family was announced as the building's new owner in July.

When it first opened in 1925, the dancehall was named Palais de Danse, and went on to operate under various names including Ritzy's, Palais, Oceana and Pryzm.

Sam Dye, venue manager, said the new owners wanted to "embrace" the building's history.

He got the keys to the venue just six weeks ago and said the team had been working "tirelessly" to get it ready for reopening.

He said: "Generations of my family loved the venue - my grandparents and parents have so many memories here.

"We want to honour that and make it a space for people of all ages."

The site's dancefloor area has been revamped and a new sound system installed ahead of the reopening.

Mr Dye said the venue would not be "just a nightclub".

"We will be hosting events of all kinds here including gigs and bingo nights," the 33-year-old said.

The opening night on Friday is exclusively for people aged over 30, something Mr Dye hopes will "attract club-goers that came in the 70s and 80s" to visit once again.
