A man has admitted to killing his mother, who was discovered with "multiple" stab wounds.
Ellen Cook, 72, was pronounced dead after police were called to Biddle Road in Littlethorpe, Leicestershire, on 11 May.
Daniel Cook, 39, formerly of Atkinson Road in Ashby, was charged with murder, but he pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the basis of diminished responsibility at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
He will be sentenced on 12 December.
'Heartbreaking consequences'
Officers said CCTV footage and witnesses identified Cook as the man who attacked his mother outside the property.
Leicestershire Police said officers were confronted by Cook, who was carrying a knife and "wouldn't co-operate" when they arrived at the family's home in Biddle Road.
Cook was then arrested on suspicion of murder.
Det Supt Mark Sinski, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit murder investigation team, said Mrs Cook's death was a "horrific incident with very tragic and heartbreaking consequences".
"The family of Mrs Cook have shown immense bravery throughout the investigation and subsequent criminal proceedings, and my thoughts continue to remain with them at this most difficult time," he added.
