Hospital road closures come into force in new year
- Published
Road closures will be in place outside a hospital for a month as work continues on a major infrastructure project.
Cheshire East Council said there would be some daytime closures on the A530 Middlewich Road near Leighton Hospital in Crewe between 8 January and 9 February.
The measures affect the section between the entrance of the hospital and the junction with Eardswick Lane.
They will apply from 09:30 GMT to 15:30 GMT and will not be in place over weekends.
The closures are to allow work under the North West Crewe Package – a roads upgrade scheme around the hospital that began in May 2022.
The scheme, which includes seven new roundabouts and a link road, aims to ease congestion around the area and improve access to Leighton Hospital.
The council hopes it will provide opportunities for local businesses to expand, as well as new and existing housing developments.
As part of the upcoming closures, workers will install road signs and new fencing.
The authority’s deputy leader Craig Browne said the project was scheduled to be completed in May.
