Rail passengers in a region are facing delays after a train came off the tracks.

The train, which had no passengers on board at the time, partially derailed on the Wirral line in the West Kirby area of Merseyside, a Merseyrail representative said.

The rail operator said it was an "operational incident" which happened in the early hours of the morning and none of the staff on board were injured.

Services between West Kirby and Hoylake have been suspended and a replacement bus service has been put in place.
