A 90-year-old woman whose death prompted a murder investigation has been named by police.
Merseyside Police has identified the woman as Myra Thompson, whose body was found by emergency services at a house on Bolde Way in Spital, Wirral, at about 11:20 BST on Tuesday.
A 48-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder.
A Home Office post mortem is due to take place.
Ms Thompson's family have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.
The force said house-to-house, CCTV and forensic inquiries were being carried out and a mobile police station had been set up.
Merseyside Police said it had referred the case to the Independent Office for Police Conduct because the force had been investigating a recent allegation of theft on behalf of Ms Thompson.
Det Ch Supt Mark Baker said: "Our thoughts and condolences are very much with the woman’s family and friends at this very sad time.
"We are still in the very early stages of our enquiries and I would ask people to avoid speculating about what has happened."
Anyone with information is urged to contact police.
