Firefighters have spent the night tackling a blaze at a landfill site.

Residents have been urged to keep their windows and doors shut throughout Monday, as crews continue to extinguish flames at Compton Bassett, near Calne.

A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said the focus remains on stopping the blaze from spreading.

Crews were called at 18:00 BST on Sunday to the fire, which has consumed approximately 10,000 sq metres of material.

The spokesperson added: "Crews have remained at the scene overnight with the high volume pump being used to supply water to three monitors and three hose reel jets.

"The focus remains on stopping the fire spread and reducing the smoke plume to assist with day time operations.

"Residents are still advised to close windows and doors.

"No casualties have been reported."

A spokesman for Hills, which runs the site, said: "The landfill site has been temporarily closed, but all other operations on site are open.

"There has been no personal injury or damage to property as a result of the fire."
