New play area for city park after consultation

A new play area is to be built at a Derby park after a public consultation.
Derby Parks announced Brunswood Park in Spondon will have a new play area by March.
More than £72,000 was given to Spondon from a developer to improve parks in the area, after homes were built on the former Technograv factory site in Nottingham Road.
Councillor Ndukwe Onuoha, Derby City Council's cabinet member for street pride, public safety and leisure, said a public consultation decided Brunswood Park was most in need of rejuvenation.
Friends of Spondon Parks raised a further £20,000 to redevelop the park.
The equipment for the play area has not yet been decided on, and local schools and the public will now be asked what they would like to see there.
Onuoha said: "This is one of the times that shows the excellence of community working, because we had some funding through section 106 development levy.
"That was allocated to improve parks in Spondon. Then we got additional funding, which was sourced by Friends of Spondon Parks through an external grant.
"To make sure everyone had a voice in where this was going to be spent, there was a consultation, which was carried out in June, and the play area in Brunswood Park was identified as a priority."
Onuoha said there was also a city-wide audit of all parks taking place.
