The former studios of Stoke-on-Trent's Signal Radio could be turned into flats.

Plans have been submitted to the city council to transform the first floor of the building in Shelton into five one-bedroom flats.

The ground floor of the old radio station, which had been there for 40 years, would stay as a commercial space.

In March, the landmark building on Stoke Road was under offer, after being put up for sale in 2023 with an asking price of £600,000.

The planning application states that the building is well sound-proofed, and those measures, including double glazing and sound-proofing between walls and floors would remain.

No structural alterations to the site are proposed, with all existing features of the building set to be retained.

There are a number of transport links nearby, including bus, cycle and train, and using the building for residential purposes would have a lesser impact on the highway than when it was a radio station, it argued.

Signal One was rebranded to Hits Radio earlier this year, and now broadcasts from Birmingham.
