Move More play sessions for toddlers in Jersey will continue after the government stepped in to confirm funding will be found.

Earlier this week Jersey Sport announced that they would end after Christmas.

The decision had been criticised by parents who said the sessions have been essential for babies and young children.

The Chief Minister, Deputy Lyndon Farnham said: "The government will find the funding to ensure its continuation."

Parent Charlotte Riley said it was good news Move More's toddler timetable will continue, but worried there might be "a gap and how long is that gap going to be for?"

She said: "My worry is where is this money going to come from.

"Jersey Sport have said they're reallocating that money. Is there going to be continuity of the service?

"Also, the staffing actually. The staff know that service, they know the children, they know how it works and so are they going to continue also as well?"

Dan Seviour and his daughter Hallie are delighted the sessions will continue.

He said: "Me and my partner, every time we're off we look to attend one of these classes.

"They're so accessible, they're free to come to and then for us, they're a confidence boost as well.

"I'm the only Dad here but it doesn't bother me coming in here and that's the power of it."

The budget for the toddler sessions was £77,000 a year and were free for everyone.

In a statement, Farnham said: "I have spoken to ministerial colleagues and we have agreed to ensure this valued and well-used play scheme remains open.”
