A tribute has been paid by the family of a "caring" husband and wife who died after their car went into a reservoir.

The bodies of John and Marilyn Saxon, both 78, were recovered from Crook Gate Reservoir in Saddleworth, Oldham on Saturday, Greater Manchester Police said.

An investigation into how their vehicle entered the water is taking place, the force added.

In a tribute the married couple's family said they were "kind, caring and generous".

Officers were called to the reservoir after the incident at about 10:00 GMT on Saturday.

The family have asked for "privacy during this difficult time", the police said.
