A Derby hospital has said it is operating as usual despite disruption from a burst pipe.

On Monday a water pipe on the ground floor of Royal Derby Hospital led to flooding, reportedly in the oncology department which diagnoses and treats patients with cancer.

The issue has since been fixed said the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Trust.

But it said “a small number of patients” had been moved temporarily into other areas of the site.

A hospital spokesperson said: "Our services at Royal Derby Hospital are open and operating as normal, so people should use and contact us as they usually would if they need our help.

“While the leak has now been stopped, in line with our normal plans for these unexpected situations we have temporarily moved a small number of patients to other areas of the hospital, to ensure they stay comfortable and well cared for while we repair the issue.

“We thank everyone for their patience and support."
