A number of gulls have been rescued after being found covered in oil.

The deposits, found at a local factory, had affected up to 10 birds, Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue said.

"Thankfully, the oil was located and was found to be a non-toxic product," a spokesperson said.

The charity confirmed that all the gulls had been cleaned, but would require multiple washes over the next few days to remove all of the oil.

"This does also remove their natural waterproofing, so once they’re clean, they’ll stay even longer to regain their natural waterproofing," it said in a social media post.
