A school's head teacher said she was "devastated" after a fire broke out in a toilet.

Firefighters were called to Otley Primary School in Chapel Road, near Ipswich, Suffolk, at 15:37 GMT on Monday.

Crews found that the fire had started in a ground floor toilet and spread to the roof, with an investigation on Tuesday since finding the cause was electrical.

Hannah Evans, the executive head teacher, said the school would offer online lessons for pupils while it was closed.

"Following the fire yesterday afternoon, we are devastated for the children and staff who work so hard for the school," she said.

"The children's wellbeing is at the heart of all decisions we will be making over the coming days.

"Our first priority is to provide online learning provision from tomorrow. We will continue to update parents and carers as we go through the process.

"We would like to thank our staff, parents, community and especially the fire service for all their support during this very difficult time. Thank you."

Seven fire crews from Suffolk Fire and Rescue were called to the scene.

They made use of two hose reel jets and a larger covering jet to tackle the blaze before it was put out at 17:55.

There were no reported casualties.
