- Published
Firefighters have spent several hours dealing with a scrap metal yard fire in the Port of Tilbury.
Crews were called to the site at about 18:42 BST on Thursday and worked alongside port staff to extinguish the fire which affected about 100m (324ft) by 30m (98ft) of the metal.
It was put out by 21:00, Essex Fire and Rescue Service said.
Diggers were used to break up the material to extinguish the fire in sections.
An investigation will be carried out to determine the cause of the fire, the service added.
Six crews from across the county attended.
A spokeswoman for the port said the fire started at a customer's site and it was "contained" by crews.
No one was injured and the port remains fully open.
