Grants are being made available to those on low incomes in a Surrey district.

From 10:00 GMT on Monday, residents will be able apply for a grant from the Tandridge Household Support Fund.

Tandridge District Council says it has contributed an additional £54,000 from its own resources to the government fund, to try and help as many households as possible receive support.

Applications must be submitted by 23:59 GMT on 15 December and those who are successful will receive their payments after the Christmas holidays, the council says.

To apply, residents must upload three bank statements from September to November 2024.

Those applying by phone will need to bring their documents to the council offices in Oxted, the council says.

The council said that grants of £125 for households without children, and £225 for those with children, are available even if they have received a grant from the fund before.

Catherine Sayer, leader of the council, said: “This fund is here to provide crucial support for those most in need, even if they have applied before.”
