A fire at a waste recycling plant has been extinguished nearly two weeks after the blaze broke out.

The fire ignited at Lean Quarry, near Liskeard, Cornwall, on 22 July and more than 40 firefighters had been called out to tackle it.

Cornwall Council said a building at the facility had been demolished, which allowed firefighters to safely extinguish the blaze.

Residents had been told to keep their windows and doors closed while the building was knocked down.

The facility contained an estimated 60 to 80 tonnes of household waste stacked up to 66ft (20m) high, said firefighters.

The structure was declared unsafe by engineers, preventing crews from entering.
