Plans to build more than 150 homes on the edge of a Leicestershire village have been granted planning permission by councillors.
Members of Blaby District Council's planning committee approved proposals for 154 homes on a 12.5-acre (five hectare) area of farmland to the south of Huncote at a meeting on Thursday.
The scheme was opposed by Huncote Parish Council which was concerned the new homes would increase the volume of cars near an existing play area and put children at risk.
However, council planning officers said the scheme, proposed by Jelson Homes, was acceptable and advised the committee to approve it.
Members voted to approve the application by six to two.
The developer said the scheme, to the south of Ratcliffe Drive, Peers Way and Preston Way, includes green spaces and orchards at the southern and eastern edges of the site as well as tree planting, a central square and areas of meadow grassland.
