Beautifully Proud returns to town for Pride Month

A month-long programme of events to celebrate Pride has been organised by a town for this June.
Named Beautifully Proud, Weston-super-Mare is hosting a number of events, activities, exhibitions and performances throughout Pride month.
Flagship events range from an evening of cabaret with the Bow Tie Boys at The Blakehay and the returning Good Old Gays 2 at The Front Room.
A spokesperson for the town council said: "We are going to shine a light on what our town has to offer the community year-round and showcase the support available in our great town".
The Beautifully Proud project started last year in the run up to the town hosting the UK Pride Festival.
This year, the town council has been working with local organisations, including the Proud Bar and Community Hub, North Somerset LGBT+ Forum and Bridging the Gap Together, to curate a programme of events for all ages across multiple venues.
Director of Pride Bar, Nigel Briers, said of the events: 'It's going to go 'pop' this year."
Weston Museum will also be hosting the first ever Beautifully Proud Exhibition from 25 until 29 June.
Curated by local organisations, the exhibition is a celebration of local queer people both past and present.
Meanwhile, the North Somerset LGBT+ Forum will offer drop-in sessions throughout the month to support those in the LGBTQ+ community who need a "non-judgemental environment and people that understand", the forum said.
Town councillor James Clayton said they are "incredibly excited" to be part of the Beautifully Proud project.
"Weston-super-Mare is a diverse and vibrant town and we feel that this programme of events shines a spotlight on what can be achieved through collaborative working."
