The driver of a car involved in a hit-and-run which left a child with serious injuries is still being sought by police, four days after the incident.

The child, who was on foot, was hit by a white Skoda Fabia - which failed to stop - on the A134 Brandon Road in Thetford at 18:50 BST on Monday.

The victim was taken to West Suffolk Hospital and then transferred to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge, where they remain in a serious but stable condition.

A man in his 20s who was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and failing to stop at the scene of a collision, has since been released and will face no further action, police said.

A CCTV image of the distinctive white Skoda with a black roof and alloy wheels was released by police on Tuesday.

Sgt Peter Howlett said: “We are still working though a number of inquiries to locate the outstanding driver.

“It is important that anyone with any information, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, gets in touch.”
