A dachshund has been attacked and killed by an XL bully in Plymouth.

It happened on Sunday at 21:40 BST in the Stonehall Flats and Cremyll Street area of the city.

Officers arrived at the scene and found the smaller dog had been fatally injured, Devon and Cornwall Police said.

The larger animal was later taken to the vets by its owner to be euthanised.

An XL bully is the largest kind of American bully dog and ownership is restricted under the Dangerous Dogs Act.

It has been a criminal offence to own one without an exemption certificate in the UK since 1 February 2024.
