Station's underpass reopens after £400k work

A train station's underpass has reopened after £400,000 worth of work.
Reading Borough Council said the town's station's "fully refurbished" underpass has meant repairs to tiling and clearer signs to help visitors get around.
The subway will be open to cyclists after 73% of respondents to a consultation said they supported removing a cycle ban through it.
It is a key route between Reading town centre and Christchurch Bridge and Caversham.
The council said the work, which took 14 weeks from May, was completed in time for Reading Festival, which begins later this week.
"The refurbished underpass is a significantly more welcoming and refreshed route for all parties in facilitating both sides of the station," Karen Rowland, the council's lead councillors for environmental services and community safety, said.
"I’m really happy we’ve been able to respond to the long-desired wishes of so many residents to open up the subway for cyclists.
"Thank you to all residents for their patience whilst we made these improvements," she added.
"I do hope you’ll enjoy the difference next time you use the subway and agree that the inconvenience was worth the wait in the end."
