A security alert in Londonderry has ended and residents have returned to their homes, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has confirmed.

Cordons had been put in place around Campion Court in the Waterside on Saturday evening.

Residents had been given the option to evacuate and a rest centre was opened at the Hillcrest Community Centre for those that needed it.

SDLP Waterside councillor Martin Reilly said families had been left disrupted on a "cold, wet evening".
