A man has been fined £1,000 for dumping bus parts in a lay-by in west Cornwall.

The man, from the Redruth area, had recently bought the bus and removed several parts, including a fridge, seats and cushions, before dumping them, Cornwall Council said.

He was issued with a fixed penalty notice after a council employee spotted him doing it and alerted the police, it added.

Councillor Thalia Marrington said: "Cornwall is such a beautiful part of the world and we must all play our part in keeping it that way - there is no excuse for fly-tipping."

Marrington said the council would "do our best to track down those responsible" for fly-tipping or littering where there was evidence.

In a separate incident, a woman in Newquay received a £500 fixed penalty notice for fly-tipping after she was caught on CCTV dumping garden waste in a children's play park.

The footage showed the woman looking around to see if anyone was watching before making several trips to the play area to dump the waste.

Both fines had been paid in full, the council said.
