A man has denied trying to murder another man following an assault in Lincoln.

Lincolnshire Police said officers were called to a property in Monks Road on 31 August, where 37-year-old Alan Ward was found with serious injuries.

Matthew Pearson, 29, and his mother, Sarah Mason, 46, both of no fixed address, were later charged with the attempted murder of Mr Ward.

Appearing at Lincoln Crown Court earlier, Pearson pleaded not guilty to the attempted murder charge, but admitted causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Mr Ward.

The defendant also pleaded guilty to three further charges of assaulting an emergency worker on 16 September and one count of criminal damage on the same date.

Judge Simon Hirst told Pearson he could still be tried for attempted murder and listed a provisional trial date for 9 March next year.

The case against Ms Mason, who did not enter a plea to the attempted murder charge, was adjourned until 28 November.

Both defendants were remanded into custody.
