Colchester United's players turned up to their League Two match at Walsall in taxis after they woke to find their coach had a flat tyre.

The U's beat the league leaders 2-0 in the West Midlands to lift them to 14th in the table.

But they had to clear several bumps in the road to get there, including flat tyres on both Friday and Saturday, as well as adverse weather conditions.

"We've had enough going against us," joked head coach Danny Cowley, speaking to BBC Essex at full-time.

"We obviously travelled in pretty much a hurricane yesterday so it hasn't been an easy three points."

The side had to arrange alternative transport on the Friday after one of their coaches broke down with a flat tyre.

Then on Saturday - after their driver discovered another flat tyre on the coach - they had to call in the local taxi company to take them the short journey from their hotel to the Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium.
