Village to trial reduced speed limits

Speed limits could be reduced in a Berkshire village following a pubic consultation.
West Berkshire Council is considering bringing the speed limit in Theale down to 20mph.
The authority is looking to launch a trial of the proposed reductions by imposing the new lower speed limit in four roads.
The trial is set to begin on 2 August and will be enforced along Church Street, Blossom Avenue, Englefield Road and James Butcher Drive.
Stuart Gourley, the council's lead for environment and highways, proposed the trial.
He said: "This project helps to deliver a commitment made in the council strategy to introduce 20mph speed limits in residential areas where residents want them.
“We are dedicated to working with our communities to enhance the safety and quality of life in our towns and villages.
“This change continues our plan to improve our highways across West Berkshire.”
A 20mph speed limit is already in place on the High Street and in Woodfield Way.
The project to introduce new speed limits is being funded by an existing capital budget expenditure and the plan in Theale is anticipated to cost around £5,000.
