Chain ferry service to restart 'towards the end of the week'

Services are expected to resume on the Isle of Wight’s troubled chain ferry “towards the end of the week”.
The Floating Bridge, which runs between Cowes and East Cowes, was suspended at 05:00 BST on Saturday because of an electrical fault.
An Isle of Wight Council spokesperson said a part must be made by a supplier before services can resume.
A replacement launch service will continue to run for cyclists and pedestrians.
The spokesperson said the fault found at the weekend was a defective heat exchanger.
“This is a bespoke part which can only be obtained via a supplier in Plymouth. This has been ordered, with delivery due in 24 to 48 hours.
“Once arrived, following fitting it is expected service to resume towards the end of the week,” they added.
“Whilst out of service, we will undertake routine maintenance which will reduce work needed in the future. The Isle of Wight Council apologises for any inconvenience.”
The chain ferry on the River Medina has been plagued with problems since it was first launched in 2017.
After years of issues with the vessel, Isle of Wight Council has decided to replace the £3.2m ferry.
