Next stage of 1,000 home development approved

The new homes will be built on the western outskirts of the town

A huge housing development that will see 1,000 new homes being built has moved a step closer.

The second phase of the West Warminster Urban Extension, also known as Jubilee Gardens, has been granted planning permission by Wiltshire Council.

Developer Persimmon Homes can now move forward with building 168 houses to the west of Bath Road, Warminster.

“The development has been designed so that the scheme constitutes a sustainable extension to Warminster that helps meet the local housing need," a Persimmon Homes spokesperson said.

Under proposals for the town's urban extension, 1,000 new homes, a primary and part-secondary school, and children's play areas will be built.

The first phase of the project, which was approved in 2022, included construction of 145 homes, and a children's play area.

Planning approval for the second phase was delayed from June 2023 due to concerns raised by Natural England surrounding the ongoing phosphates issue in the wider River Avon catchment.

The latest designs accounted for on-site phosphate mitigation through wastewater treatment works, floating treatment wetland, a sustainable urban drainage system, and agricultural set aside.

Wiltshire Council’s planning case officer said the second phase plans do "not lead to substantive harmful neighbouring effects that would warrant further revisions or a refusal decision".
