Enforcement action will be taken against "problem" drivers parking dangerously outside schools, a council has said.

Trafford Council said it had received a series of complaints about the issue at several schools in the area.

Of particular concern were people driving dangerously and parking across driveways and on double yellow lines during drop-off and pick-up times.

The council and Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have reminded people that action will be taken against repeat offenders.

'Top priority'

Police powers allow officers to issue formal warnings to inconsiderate drivers and even seize vehicles.

GMP said officers had written to parents to "remind them of their responsibility".

The council also said more streets would be subject to temporary traffic restrictions, external in time for the start and end of the school day.

Councillor Aidan Williams said: “The safety of schoolchildren is clearly a top priority and we will not sit back and do nothing.

"Working with Greater Manchester Police, we will not hesitate to take action against those drivers who continue to break the law and put children at risk.

“Please do not drive dangerously and park illegally outside schools in our borough.”
