People were evacuated from a cottage in Devon while firefighters tackled a fire in its thatched roof.

Fire engines from 15 stations including South Molton and Braunton were responded to the incident in the village of Alverdiscott, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said.

Firefighters were called at about 22:19 BST on Friday and were still on the scene at 02:35, the service said.

On Saturday morning, the service said crews had "worked hard" overnight to stop the blaze from spreading but it had left about 50% of the roof damaged before the incident was closed.
