A sixth man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a teenager was shot on an industrial estate.

Ellis Cox was 19 when he was killed in Aintree, Merseyside, on 23 June 2024 as he walked home from a day out with friends.

A 22-year-old, from Thornton, was taken into custody earlier on suspicion of murder and possession of a firearm, Merseyside Police said.

The suspect is the sixth person arrested as part of the force's investigation into Mr Cox's death. No charges have been brought.

Last week, a 32-year-old man from the Croxteth area of Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of murder and possession of a firearm.

"Our investigation continues at pace and we are determined to get justice for Ellis' family," said Det Ch Insp Steve McGrath.

He said: "Although we have made another arrest in connection with this incident, I want to urge anyone with information to come forward.

"We're continuing to appeal for any information from anyone who is yet to come forward, the smallest detail of which could be vital to our inquiries."

Detectives believe Mr Cox was shot with a self-loading pistol as he walked through the Liver Industrial Estate, having travelled back from Southport.

His mother, Carolyn Cox, has previously said he had called her shortly before and told her he would be "home in five minutes".

He was found with gunshot wounds at 22:00 BST.
