A former police station could be demolished to make way for more than 100 flats.

The site on Otley Road, Weetwood, Leeds, stopped operating as a police station in 2020.

Weetwood Developments Ltd plan would see the existing buildings demolished and replaced with a building ranging between four and six storeys with 127 flats.

However, a resident's group has raised concerns over the size and design of the proposed building.

Since the police station closed the two existing buildings on the site have been used as a temporary base for TV production and a nursery and creche.

The proposals would see a new L-shaped building built, ranging between four and six storeys, with roof terraces and solar panels.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, a report to be presented to a Leeds City Council planning panel on Thursday, said: "The building also incorporates a work-from-home area adjacent to the building entrance for use by residents.”

'Additional spending'

Adel Neighbourhood Forum have registered obections to the proposal.

The forum raised concerns over the size and design of the building, and road safety on the nearby Lawnswood roundabout.

Concerns were also raised over the applicant's contribution to affordable housing

In a design statement first submitted in 2022, Weetwood Developments Ltd said:

“The new residential population will generate new footfall, creating additional activity and spending on local services and amenities.”

Council officers have recommended the scheme is approved subject to conditions.
