A miniature schnauzer had to be rescued from its own garden fence after it got stuck chasing a ball.

Firefighters said they arrived at Moreton near Harlow at 12:14 BST on Thursday to save Monty.

He was not hurt in the rescue and fire crews said once he was freed he was bouncing around the garden again.

A spokesperson from the Essex fire service said: "Seeing Monty in that position was heartbreaking - but when we finally freed him, he literally licked us to death! It was brilliant to see him bounding around the garden."
