A murder investigation has been launched after a man died in hospital following an alleged assault.

Kent Police had been called to a property in Chatham High Street at 16:55 BST on Monday and the man was taken to a London hospital where he later died.

Police say they are investigating reports that the victim may have been assaulted earlier that day in Magpie Hall Road, near the junction with Newnham Street between 11:00 and 14:00.

They also say the man might have also been previously assaulted in the High Street on Saturday between the junctions with Upbury Way and Institute Road at 22:45 GMT.

Kent Police have arrested a 43-year-old local man in connection with the investigation.

A second man who was detained on Monday has now been released without charge.

Police are urging anyone with CCTV or dashcam footage of any of the three incidents to contact them.
