Salisbury street becomes two-way again after closure
- Published
A busy road through Salisbury will reopen on Friday to two-way traffic after being closed for more than a year.
Traffic has been one-way since August 2023 in Fisherton Street to allow works to take place for changes such as wider pavements and new street lighting.
Wiltshire Council said the road will reopen at about 18:00 BST to two-way traffic.
Councillor Nick Holder said the works "make it easier for people to navigate the city centre".
The council added the improvements have been funded by the £9m government grant which also includes a redesign of Salisbury railway station's forecourt.
Snagging work will continue until the end of October, the council said.
Mr Holder, Wiltshire Council’s cabinet member for highways, said: “Creating vibrant, well-connected communities is a key priority for us and this scheme delivers this for Salisbury.
"For many, the journey into Salisbury begins at the railway station, and previously South Western Road and Fisherton Street gave a poor first impression, with narrow pavements and heavy traffic dominating the area."
