A man and a woman have been arrested after police investigated a beach fight which left another woman with head injuries.

The woman, in her twenties, was taken to hospital after a disturbance on West Kirby beach on South Parade in Wirral at about 18:50 BST on Sunday, Merseyside Police said.

She was later discharged.

A 33-year-old woman from Moreton was held on suspicion of wounding with intent, while a 37-year-old man from Woodchurch was arrested on suspicion of affray.

Appealing for video footage, Det Insp Sarah Wilkinson, said: "We understand the distress that this incident will have caused to those enjoying West Kirby on a sunny evening, including families and young children."

She said there was no wider threat to the public.

"I would ask that anyone who saw the incident, or captured anything on mobile phones or other devices to come forward. We will be in the area to gather information and offer reassurance as we look into exactly what happened," she added.
