Major changes are to be introduced for Liberation Day 2025 in Guernsey following a community survey, the States says.

In response to feedback, the World War Two anniversary would be focused in St Peter Port, with different themes and programmes held on different piers, officials said.

Funding was also being given to support other events in different parishes that would be held on 9 May and the following weekend, they added.

Deputy Sue Aldwell, from the Education, Sport and Culture Committee (ESC), said the year would be "a major milestone" and she hoped to "deliver a day that is remembered for years to come".

The day will mark 80 years since the island was liberated from Nazi occupation.

ESC has created a team, led by head of heritage services Helen Glencross, to plan events with parishes and event organisers.

Ms Glencross said the team aimed to deliver "a fantastic day", with a programme giving people "lots of opportunities to take part".

She added that they were working with the Association of Guernsey Charities to find volunteers to run the weekend, and were also looking for corporate sponsors.

More announcements about the events would be shared through social media and on the government's website, officials said.
