The upgrade of the A46 from Six Hills to Widmerpool is set to be completed in August

Drivers are being warned of changes to closures on a major route in Leicestershire.

National Highways has changed its programme of work on the A46 between Six Hills and Widmerpool due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

Work planned for next week will now take place from 1 July, with the northbound carriageway closed between 20:00 BST and 06:00 until 5 July, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).

A spokesman said the change was necessary as the A46 is being used as a diversion during Leicestershire County Council road resurfacing work.

Work on that stretch of the A46 started in September last year, and is expected to finish in August, at a cost of £16m.

Apologising on its website for the disruption, National Highways said: "All closures are subject to change at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances or poor weather conditions."
