Police are investigating after vandalism at a Guernsey model flying club.

Guernsey Model Flying Club, at the Chouet flying site, said they have experienced damage to the site in the past, but nothing this "major".

Guernsey Police said officers would investigate the matter which happened on Thursday.

The president of the club, Mike Burton, said wooden cable drums, which they use as tables to sit at, had been "wrecked" as well as seating areas for spectators.

'Pure vandalism'

Mr Burton, said: "Some of the seating that spectators can sit on is totally destroyed.

"I'm very annoyed and upset.

"We've had occasions over the years where there has been vandalism, but never anything this major. It's just pure vandalism."

Mr Burton said the club could continue to fly as the runways had not been affected.

He said: "We'll have to make some temporary arrangements so when members of the public come down here with their children they have somewhere safe to sit.

"It's not going to stop us flying.

"It's annoying, it's an inconvenience but model flying will continue from this site."

Committee member Ben Le Prevost said the criminal damage was "shocking"

Committee member Ben Le Prevost said the vandalism was "quite shocking and disappointing".

He said the criminal damage was "frustrating more than anything".

"Any damage to anything down here is going to limit us in some way. We just don't have anywhere else to do it."

Mr Le Prevost said the club had still been able to fly, adding "we'll make the best of what we've got".

Guernsey Police added: "Officers took a report of criminal damage from the Model Flying Club.

"Officers will investigate the matter."
