A permanent 20mph speed limit has been put in place outside a primary school in Much Wenlock.

Signage and road markings were installed along the road from Brockton to Easthope, outside Brockton C of E Primary School.

It was implemented as part of a Shropshire Council programme that will see 20mph speed restrictions introduced outside several schools.

"We are delighted that the safety of all of the members of our school community and other local residents has been improved by the long-awaited introduction of a 20mph zone around our site at Brockton," said Marilyn Hunt, executive head teacher of the Edge Schools Federation.

Rob Wilson, Shropshire Council's cabinet member for transport and economic growth, said it would make journeys for pupils and parents safer.

The same restrictions have also been put in place at the following schools:

  • The Grove School, Market Drayton

  • The Thomas Adams School, Wem

  • The Lacon Childe School, Cleobury Mortimer

  • St Martins 3-16 Community School

  • Holy Trinity C of E Primary Academy, Oswestry

The authority said work at other schools would be confirmed in the near future.
