Fundraiser to climb six peaks dressed as a chicken

A feathered fundraiser is planning to climb six UK peaks in just three days dressed as a chicken for Parkinson's and mental health awareness.

Luke Woodward, 24, from Martin in Hampshire, is taking on the challenge between 6 and 8 November to raise money for Parkinson's UK, in honour of his father, who lives with the disease.

He also hopes to shine a light on mental health struggles, as he admitted he used to think he was being a "chicken" by not asking for help.

"I want to show people you can do anything really, put yourself to a challenge and it will happen," he said.

His dad, Mark, was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2015 and now lives in a care home after years of battling the condition.

"I've seen him go from the man I always loved and knew to a man who doesn't even recognise me," Mr Woodward said.

He added that on the day his father moved into a care home, in August, the family suffered further heartbreak after Mr Woodward's brother-in-law Josh died from a cardiac arrest aged 36, leaving behind his young family.

Mr Woodward's said he hoped climbing Cross Fell, Scafell Pike, Helvellyn, Snowdon, Penygader, and Pen y Fan would make his family proud and inspire others to "get through the tough times".

"It's not doom and gloom all of the time," he said.
