Guernsey's oldest veterinary practice is planning to build the island's first ever animal hospital.

Isabelle Vets, which has branches in St Peter Port and L'Islet, said it had received planning permission for a state-of-the art facility in St Sampson.

A spokesperson said it would be the first time Guernsey had a 24/7 animal hospital with an operating theatre.

Clinical director Doreen Munn-Litten said creating the facility was "a long-held dream" and would allow "round-the-clock care".

She said the hospital would also mean horse owners no longer needed to go to the UK for specialist treatment, as the new site would include an equine hospital and CT scanner.

The facility will include six consulting rooms, four operating theatres, separate waiting rooms for cats and dogs, 13 kennels, a 20-space cattery, a dental room, X-ray facilities and a pharmacy.

The spokesperson said they hoped building work would start in spring 2026.

Isabelle Vets' current clinics will remain as branch surgeries.
