A man has been stabbed in the chest in Manchester, police have said.

The victim, in his 20s, was attacked in Slade Lane, Longsight, at about 18:15 BST on Friday, Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition, but has since been stabilised.

A man in his 50s was arrested at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in custody.

GMP said it was following several lines of inquiry and appealed for anyone with "vital information or footage" to come forward.

Officers are particularly keen to speak to anyone in the area with CCTV, dash cam, or doorbell footage.

Det Insp Helen Bagnall said: "This incident is undoubtedly a concerning one for the community that live and work in that area.

"I want to reassure everyone that we are following every line of inquiry that we have."
