A major road in Hull city centre will be closed over the weekend as part of construction work.

The eastbound carriageway of the A63 between Brighton Street and Roger Millward Way will shut from 20:00 BST on Friday until 06:00 on Monday.

The westbound carriageway will then close at 22:00 on Friday until 06:00 on Monday 17 June.

National Highways said the later closure was to allow away supporters attending the rugby league match between Hull Kingston Rovers and Huddersfield Giants to travel home.

Diversion routes will be in place via the A15, A164, A1079 and A1033.

National Highways said: "Traffic in the city is likely to be busy and we would advise drivers to plan for essential travel only during the overnight closures.

"We apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s patience while we carry out these major improvements within Hull city centre."

The closure is part of a £355m redesign of Castle Street that involves lowering the level of the road to create a split-level junction at Mytongate.
