More than 2,500 cyclists are to take part in a 60 mile (97km) bike ride from Salford to Blackpool later.

The event has been running for 34 years, and for the last 24 years has raised more than £5m for the Christie cancer charity.

The ride starts in the Piazza in Media City, Salford - passing through Manchester, Leigh, Wigan, Preston, Warton and Blackpool.

Blackpool will be busy as there is also a music-themed run on the Promenade and road closures will be in place.

The Promenade will be closed to traffic due to the events between Talbot Square and Burlington Road West between 10:00 and 14:00, the council said.

New South Promenade will be closed to traffic between Starr Gate and Clifton Drive and Harrowside West and Harrowside Place will also be closed to traffic between 08:00 and 18:30 for the events.
