Construction on a new housing estate in Cheshire has been halted after a major developer went bust.

Administrators have been appointed to oversee a subsidiary of the Stewart Milne group, which is behind the Astbury Park development in Congleton.

The developer had received funding from the government’s housing and regeneration agency Homes England to help support the scheme.

Homes England has said it is prioritising completion of the development and is in discussions with the administrators.

Administrators, Teneo, said Homes England wanted them to seek options for the developments it was involved in separately from other subsidiaries of the wider group.

They said in a statement, external: “Our present intention is to work closely with Homes England and other stakeholders as well as the retained management and staff to develop a strategy that results in the continued delivery, where possible in line with our duties to creditors, of the company’s four housing developments.”

A spokesperson for Homes England added: “Our immediate priority is to work with the administrator to support the continued delivery where possible of those housing developments we’re involved in.”
