Tamworth's football fans say their side's FA Cup third-round clash with Tottenham will put the town on the map.

The Lambs were drawn against the north London club on Monday after knocking out Huddersfield and Burton Albion in the earlier rounds.

Spurs and Tamworth will go head to head on the weekend of 11/12 January, after the Lambs beat Albion on Sunday.

“They’re a good team, and a good manager as well,” said Lynda Debono. “I only live up the road, and I can hear the screams from the ground."

Spurs fan George told BBC Radio WM he was looking forward to the game in the new year.

“I was absolutely buzzing to be honest. It’s a great opportunity, as a Tottenham fan you think it’s a nice easy draw, but at the same time I’ve seen Tottenham lose to many a side which we should be beating,” he said.

“I will be putting £5 on Tamworth, believe you me.”

Meanwhile, lifelong Tamworth fan Ben Cooke said it was an amazing achievement for his team, given their rivals are professional players.

“To knock out two League One sides – Huddersfield and Burton, who are full time players – these guys at Tamworth, they’ve got full time jobs, they’ve got families, they don’t train full time, they’ve got other commitments.

“For the town it’s incredible, especially for the club, to put us on the map and the financial gains it brings.”
