'Ageing' traffic lights to be replaced in 2026

Traffic lights on two "busy" junctions that are more than 30 years old will be replaced in early 2026.

Work on the signals at the A39 junction with the A396 at Dunster, Somerset and the A39 junction with Clarks Village is expected to start on 5 January and finish in April

Somerset Council said it was "imperative" the "ageing" signals were replaced in both locations before they fail.

Councillor Richard Wilkins, the lead member for transport and waste services, said: "These are a very busy junctions and we are pleased to see this vital work taking place."

A temporary traffic lights system will be operating whilst the work is carried out.

People can find out more information at a drop-in session which will be held at Dunster Tithe Barn on 10 December from 15:00 GMT.

Somerset Council said any changes to traffic management requirements during the construction period will be advertised in advance.

Mr Wilkins said: "We are aware there will be disruption at peak traffic times and during school drop-offs and pick-ups, as well as for visitors heading to Minehead or Exmoor. The team will be working hard to minimise this."

The work is part of a county-wide initiative to replace traffic signals.
