Top scientist makes 'inspiring' classroom visit

Lord Winston answered questions from year 5 and 6 pupils

One of the UK's best-known scientists has been back to the classroom to inspire the next generation.

Lord Robert Winston, who pioneered IVF treatments and became a TV presenter and author, visited Towcester Church of England Primary School in Northamptonshire.

He talked about the human body and answered questions from the children.

The head teacher said he had inspired the children to consider careers in science.

Lord Robert Winston made a successful transition from the laboratory to the TV camera, presenting several series including Your Life in Their Hands, The Human Body and Walking with Cavemen.

He made his name with his work to improve fertilisation and screen embryos for genetic diseases.

He went on to run a research programme to improve human transplantation.

He visited Towcester Church of England Primary School to speak to year 5 and 6 pupils last Thursday.

Beatrix from Year 6 welcomed the opportunity to meet him. She said: "It was exciting to meet a real-life scientist and learn from their experiences because they worked really hard to achieve their goals."

Mason added: "I thought it was really cool for a world-famous scientist to come and visit our school."
