A busy road in Hull will be closed for five weeks for repairs to gas pipes.

County Road North is due to close at the junction with National Avenue on 6 July.

Northern Gas Networks said the "essential work" involved upgrading "ageing metal pipework".

“We will be working hard to complete this work as safely and as quickly as possible,” said Chris Keith, the firm's operations manager.

He apologised for "any inconvenience" and said gas supplies to homes and businesses would be unaffected.

County Road North is due to be closed between the Windsor Road junction and Setting Dyke for the full duration of the work.

Access for residents will be maintained via County Road South and Langdale Avenue. Pedestrians and cyclists will be unaffected.

In a statement, the company said the work was designed to "ensure a safe and reliable supply of gas to customers", while "getting the network ready to transport alternative greener fuels in the future".

The repairs are due to be completed by 11 August.
